How To Create a Subscription Plan: Prepaid Plan vs. Ongoing

A Step-by-step guide on how to create a prepaid or an ongoing plan for your products.

Updated today

A subscription plan allows customers to pay on a recurring basis for continuous access to a product or service, creating value for both customers and merchants. Customers benefit from convenience and uninterrupted access, while businesses gain predictable revenue and stronger customer relationships.

Recurpay offers ongoing and prepaid subscription plans, allowing customers to either pay per cycle or upfront for a fixed period. This provides customers with convenience and potential savings, while helping merchants improve cash flow and reduce churn.

Here is a quick step-by-step guide to set up a Prepaid Plan or an Ongoing plan in your Recurpay Dashboard. You can also refer to this Video for a more detailed, guided walkthrough:

Step 1: Locate The Plans Page

On your Recurpay dashboard, on the left hand side, click on the Plans option to edit or create a plan.

Within the plan page, select the "(+) Add Plan" green button on the top right hand corner to create a new plan or select an existing plan ID to edit the plan.

Step 3: Set Up Your Frequency - Ongoing Subscription Plan

Within the plan page, select the first option that says "Delivery and billing" to set how often customers are charged and get their orders.

For an ongoing subscription plan, once the delivery frequency value has been indicated, the billing frequency value will automatically match and be indicated as well, making it an ongoing subscription.

Step 4: Set Up Your Frequency - Prepaid Subscription Plan

However if you intend setting up a prepaid subscription plan, after you have set up your delivery frequency above, scroll down to the field that says "collect payment upfront (Prepaid)".

This field enables you to define the number of orders to charge your customers upfront, making it a prepaid subscription plan.

NOTE: You can refer to the How To Create A Subscription Plan In Recurpay Article for a complete guide on setting up a subscription plan, which entails all essential features in setting up a plan.

Step 5: Save The Plan or Update Plan

For a new plan, click Save to store your setup. For an existing plan, click Update to apply your changes.
