Managing Subscription Pricing: How to Use Product Tags for Price Rules in Recurpay

Updated this week

Maintaining consistent pricing for existing subscribers while launching new rates for new customers is a common challenge for subscription businesses. Recurpay addresses this through its Product Price Rule feature, which allows you to segment your pricing strategies using Shopify product tags.

By defining product tags for price rules, you can ensure that specific items such as "Legacy" products retain their original pricing even after you update your store's general price list in Shopify.

Step-by-Step: Setting Up Tag-Based Price Rules

Follow these steps to target specific products with custom pricing rules:

1. Locate the Policy Settings

2. Access the Product Price Rule Section

  • Scroll down the page until you find the Product Price Rule section.

  • Click to create a new rule or edit an existing one.

3. Filter by Product Tags

  • Inside the rule editor, look for the option to filter by “Products tagged with.”

  • Enter the exact Shopify product tag(s) you want this rule to apply to.

Example: If you want to protect the price of an older version of a product, you might use a tag like legacy-pricing or old-subscriptions.

4. Save and Apply

  • Once the tags are entered, finalize the price rule settings (such as the specific discount or fixed price).

  • Save your changes. Recurpay will now automatically apply this rule only to subscriptions for products that carry those specific tags in your Shopify admin.
